Jokowi's sacrificial cow in Surabaya was given the name Mbrebes Mili, here's what it means

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President JokoWidodo's (Jokowi) sacrificial cow at Al-Akbar Mosque in Surabaya is called Mbrebes Mili.

Secretary of the Implementation and Management Agency (BPP) of the Al Akbar National Mosque in Surabaya (MAS), Helmy M Noor in Surabaya, said that Jokowi's sacrificial cow arrived on Sunday (16/6) Morning.

Helmy explained that Jokowi's sacrificial cow, which will be slaughtered for Eid al-Adha, is an Ongole crossbreed weighing one ton. This cow was purchased from a breeder named Teguh from Lamongan Regency, East Java.

“President Jokowi sacrificed a 5-year-old Ongole crossbreed cow. It weighed 1,010 kilograms then,” he said, as quoted byCNNIndonesiaSunday (6/16/2024).

Helmy said the cow, which is 156 centimeters tall and white, has its own reason for being called Mbrebes Mili.

“Why was he given the name Mbrebes Mili, according to the breeder [kurban] “President Jokowi, Pak Teguh, because he was so happy, President Jokowi bought his cow as a sacrifice in 2024,” he said.

For information, “mbrebes mili” is Javanese which means to begin to flow, in this case tears. This word is a term to describe an affecting condition.

Besides Jokowi's cows, there are also sacrificial animals of other officials, namely cows belonging to Acting Governor of East Java Adhy Karyono, Chief of East Java Regional Police, Inspector General Imam Sugianto.

“Then there is the Military Commander and Mrs. Haji Khofifah Indar Parawansa, Governor of East Java for the period 2019-2024,” he said.

Helmy explained that the number of sacrificial animals at Al Akbar Mosque in 2024 is expected to increase compared to the previous year 2023. He said that this year, most of the animals will weigh more than last year.

“This year, God willing, it will increase. Usually on the eve of Iduldha you will find out how many sacrificial animals were obtained from cows and goats. Last year it was 30 cows and 40 goats. This year, last night it was 26 cows and almost 40 goats,” he said.

Later, all sacrificial animals at the Al Akbar National Mosque in Surabaya will be slaughtered starting Tuesday, June 18, 2024.

“The sacrificial animals of the National Mosque of Surabaya will be slaughtered H+1, precisely on Tuesday June 18, 2024,” he concluded.
