PTI leaders, party activists face legal action for protesting outside Adiala jail

Rawalpindi police have filed cases against several Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers, including party chief Seemabia Tahir, for protesting outside Adiala jail, where former prime minister and party founder Imran Khan is currently incarcerated, Express News reported.

The case, filed under Section 144 of the Pakistan Penal Code, accuses the protesters of violating the law, resisting police and damaging police uniforms.

Six PTI workers, including Aqeel Khan, Malik Bader Farhan, Zubair Hussain, Noman Tariq, Naveed Akhtar and Maqsood Zafar, were arrested in connection with the incident.

In addition, five other people, including Ahmed Hasan and Mubasher Kanju, have been named in this case, as well as several others whose identities remain unknown.

The PTI has staged protests across the country, mainly against allegations of fraud in the February 8 general elections. The party is demanding the restoration of its “stolen mandate” and the immediate release of its leaders, including founding president and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated in Adiala prison since at least May 2023.

On March 10, responding to Imran's call, the PTI organized protest demonstrations across the country against allegations of manipulation in the general elections.

However, in Punjab, where a PML-N-led coalition government recently took power, these protests were met with harsh measures, which resulted in the detention of many PTI workers and leaders, including Sardar Latif Khosa and Salman Akram Raja.
