Boris Johnson prepares his return to leadership to “save” the Conservatives
The former Prime Minister considers himself the only one who can “save” the Conservatives from Nigel Farage.
Boris Johnson is plotting a return to the leadership, seeing himself as the only man to save the Conservative Party after a predicted brutal defeat and the rise of Nigel Farage, it has been reported.
According to the former Prime Minister's biographer Andrew Gimson, Johnson's friends said he had not given up on his plans for a comeback should the Conservative Party suffer (as expected) a humiliating defeat in the general election and against the launching an opportunistic takeover bid for Farage.
Write in Conservative HouseGimson said: “It would be out of character not to do this by comparing when Johnson entered the November 2019 leadership race as an insurgent and someone chosen to appeal to disaffected voters, as Gimson argued that is what Johnson would see of himself for the Conservative Party now.
The move would be welcomed by the likes of Jacob Rees-Mogg, who recently called for Boris Johnson to be reappointed to a senior role within the party, while also including Reform UK in its ranks. Meanwhile, Johnson's cheerleader Nadine Dorries also made her point. On Sunday, speaking on BBC Politics, the reason the Conservative Party was falling in the polls was partly due to the impeachment of Boris Johnson.
It says a lot about the state of the Conservative Party and its respectability in politics if the return of the law-breaking Prime Minister is its only hope of appealing to voters disgruntled by an electoral wipeout.
