Imran Khan's political advisor kidnapped in Lahore, says report

Lahore: Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's political advisor was allegedly kidnapped by unknown persons in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan, media reported on Wednesday.

According to an FIR registered at Kahna police station, Ghulam Shabbir, the elder brother of Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shahbaz Gill, was kidnapped by unknown persons two days ago, Pakistani newspaper Express Tribune reported.

Shabbir was traveling to Islamabad from Lahore and was kidnapped en route.

According to the FIR registered by his son Bilal, Shabbir had left his residence at Khayaban-e-Amin in Lahore late in the night. He added that he was heading towards Islamabad.

No further details were available. His current whereabouts are also unknown.

Imran Khan has been jailed since August last year after being convicted in several cases. 200 complaints have been filed against him since he was ousted as Pakistan's prime minister in April 2022 following a no-confidence vote, PTI reported.

The former cricket captain, who founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), launched a march to Islamabad from Lahore in May 2022 in an attempt to topple the coalition government of Shehbaz Sharif, which took power after Khan's ouster.
