Judge Markandey Katju: Pakistani Americans must unite with Indian counterparts to free Imran Khan

Overseas Pakistanis have held rallies and protests in the United States and other countries to demand the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned since August last year, but to no avail.

In my opinion, one mistake that these overseas Pakistanis have made is not to unite with the overseas Indians, not to form a joint Indo-Pakistani organization overseas to resolve their problems and fight together for them. After all, we share the same culture, we have been united for over 500 years since the time of Mughal Emperor Akbar, we look alike and have many traits in common. In fact, abroad, Indians and Pakistanis often socialize and mix as if there had never been partition in 1947.

There are only about 630,000 people of Pakistani origin living in the United States, but there are about 5 million people of Indian origin, or about 1.5% of the American population. It is clear that the efforts of the Pakistanis would be increased eightfold if they formed a joint organization with the Indians in the United States, and their voice would then be much more effective.

So I suggest the leaders of Pakistani organizations in America to meet the leaders of the Indian community there to discuss this issue soon and create such a united organization.

This joint organization should then organize joint demonstrations, meet with American officials and make them understand that it is in the interest of the American government that peace reigns in Pakistan, which is only possible through free and fair elections ( it is very desirable that peace reigns in Pakistan). we know that the elections of February 8 were massively rigged).

American companies have made huge investments in Pakistan, and these would be jeopardized and become dangerous if there is no law and order and peace in Pakistan. Imran Khan has undoubtedly made many anti-American statements, but there is no reason why, in a calm atmosphere, a deal cannot be reached with him. After all, he has lived in Western countries and cannot be fundamentally anti-American.

Once such a deal is reached, the Pakistani military, which is following America's lead, will change its tone, drop its hostility towards Imran Khan and release him.
