International Yoga Day: PM Modi does yoga in Srinagar to mark 10th International Yoga Day
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the celebrations of the 10th International Yoga Day in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
The event, which was scheduled to begin at 6:30 am at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Center (SKICC), on the banks of Dal Lake, was disrupted due to heavy rains in the city.
The arrangements were then moved indoors.
Later, the Prime Minister also shared his photos from Dal Lake, after the rain stopped.
This year's event highlights the profound impact of yoga on young minds and bodies. The celebration aims to bring thousands of people together in the practice of yoga, promoting health and well-being globally.
The theme of this year's yoga celebrations, 'Yoga for Self and Society', emphasizes the vital role of yoga in promoting individual well-being and societal harmony.
PM ADDRESS NATION ON YOGA DAY
On the occasion, the Prime Minister also addressed a gathering and said that the day created new records in the world.
Extending greetings to the people of the country, Prime Minister Modi said, “I extend my greetings to the people of the country and those practicing yoga across the four corners of the world on the occasion of Yoga Day. The number of people practicing yoga is increasing around the world. »
“International Yoga Day completed a historic journey of 10 years. In 2014, I proposed International Yoga Day at the United Nations. This proposal from India was supported by 177 nations and it was a record in Since then, International Yoga Day has been setting new records,” he said.
“Over the past 10 years, the expansion of yoga has changed its perception. Today, the world is seeing a new yoga economy growing. In India, from Rishikesh and Kashi to Kerala, a new nexus of yoga tourism “Tourists people from all over the world come to India because they want to learn authentic yoga in India,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of yoga and its health benefits, the Prime Minister also said, “Yoga is for oneself and for society.”
“As we celebrate the 10th International Yoga Day, I urge everyone to incorporate yoga into their daily lives,” he said.
Praising Srinagar, the Prime Minister also said, “I have an opportunity to come to the land of 'yoga' and 'sadhana'. In Srinagar we can feel the “shakti” we receive from yoga.
“Yoga promotes strength, health and well-being. It is wonderful to be part of this year’s program in Srinagar,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also remembered Charlotte Chopin, a 101-year-old French yoga teacher who was awarded the Padma Shri this year.
“This year in India, a 101-year-old yoga teacher was awarded the Padma Shri. She had never been to India, but she dedicated her entire life to spreading awareness about yoga. Now, research on yoga are being conducted in prestigious universities and institutions across the world, research papers are being published,” Prime Minister Modi said.
