Electronic medical visas for Bangladeshis and new embassy: PM after talks with Sheikh Hasina
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a joint press briefing with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina, on Saturday announced that India will launch an electronic medical visa system to allow Bangladeshis seeking medical treatment to come to India. He further said that the two countries agreed to open a new deputy high commission in Rangpur for “the convenience of the people of the northwest region of Bangladesh”.
Prime Minister Modi also extended his wishes to the cricket teams of India and Bangladesh for the World Cup match scheduled to be played today evening.
“Bangladesh is India's largest development partner and we accord highest priority to our relations with Bangladesh,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi held a bilateral discussion with his counterpart Sheikh Hasina on a wider range of issues at the Hyderabad House in Delhi.
Sheikh Hasina received a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Saturday. After the ceremony, she also met Prime Minister Modi.
Sources told PTI that the meeting between the two leaders is expected to focus on taking bilateral relations to new heights.
After arriving in New Delhi on Friday, Prime Minister Hasina met Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and held a discussion on several bilateral issues.
