More than half of public 'have nothing in common' with Rishi Sunak, poll finds
While Mr Sunak and his wife, Akshata Murty, have a personal fortune estimated at more than 600 million euros, the Prime Minister has long had to battle claims that he is out of touch with ordinary people.
When respondents were asked the same question about Sir Keir Starmer, the Labor leader fared slightly better.
Thirty-six percent said they would have nothing in common, but 25 percent chose their general outlook on life and 20 percent chose politics.
When asked what subject they thought Sir Keir was best at at school, 31 per cent thought KC would have excelled in English, with 16 per cent choosing history.
When asked the same question about Mr Sunak, a former banker who unveiled a plan to allow young people to study mathematics until the age of 18, it was not very surprising finding that 43 percent thought he was the best at math.
However, when asked which of the last seven prime ministers was the smartest, Mr Sunak was placed in the middle of the table.
Tony Blair came top, with 18 percent choosing him as the smartest, followed by David Cameron with 17 percent. Gordon Brown and Boris Johnson were tied on 14 per cent, followed by Mr Sunak on 7 per cent and Theresa May on 6 per cent. Liz Truss came in last with 2 percent.
Another poll meanwhile reveals that if Labor wins the election the public will likely put them on probation.
Research by More in Common and the UCL Policy Lab found that most voters are only willing to give Labor less than a year to blame the Tories for their problems and less than a year before they expect to see visible signs of improvement.
Two in five voters (40 per cent) said they would give Labor less than six months to blame their problems on the Tories, with 59 per cent giving them less than a year.
Six in ten respondents believe Labor will have less than a year before expecting a positive difference, and 30 per cent expect to see a difference to party policy within six months.
The public test for what Labor would look like is reducing NHS waiting lists, with almost two thirds of the public (64 per cent) choosing this option.
Luke Tryl, executive director of More in Common, UK, said: If the polls are correct, Labor looks set to win power with a landslide. But our poll shows there will be no time to rest on their laurels, with the public expecting to see positive changes to repair broken Britain within a year, starting with the lists of waiting for the NHS.
If they fail to quickly show visible signs of progress, our increasingly volatile electorate is unlikely to forgive and, as this Parliament has shown, even the foundations of a very large majority could be undermined. prove to be very fragile.
