PTI to consider Achakzai's constructive suggestions following talks with govt: party spokesperson – Pakistan

PTI leader Raoof Hassan on Tuesday said former Prime Minister and party founder Imran Khan would consider any constructive suggestions put forward by Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) President Mahmood Khan Achakzai as part of its dialogue with the government.

In February, PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan said party founder Imran Khan had given instructions to get in touch with all other political parties except the PML-N, PPP and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan.

The three parties are part of the coalition that runs the government.

In an apparent reversal from his earlier assertions that the former ruling party would only speak to relevant stakeholders and not the ruling coalition, Imran on June 11 ordered the party's top brass to reach out to the government for dialogue.

However, at a press conference in Islamabad three days later with the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, Hasan said: Regarding a controversy in the media that the PTI is preparing to have negotiations with three political parties who are mandate usurpers, Imran clearly told us that such a situation does not exist.

In an interview with Dawn News' Doosra Rukh show aired on Friday, the PTI spokesperson said the party's position had not changed since the beginning.

Addressing PTI chief Gohar Khan's comments on the party's openness to negotiations, Hasan said they approached Imran following Gohar's comments, where the PTI founder said no statement of this type had not been made.

There will be no direct contact with the parties who stole the mandate, Gohar quoted Imran as saying.

Regarding Mehmood Khan Achakzai [] Imran said if he wanted to talk [to the opposition] on his own, then he is allowed, he said.

We cannot put pressure on any party [] If they think they can play a constructive role, then they should try, he said.

Imran said today that if they come up with constructive suggestions, we will consider them. This is a permanent policy.

Responding to the question of whether the PTI gave the PkMAP chairman the power to negotiate, Raoof said: No, the PTI position is clear. Don't confuse two things together. The PTI's position is clear: we do not want any contact with mandate thieves.
