PTI open to constructive proposals

ISLAMABAD:

PTI chief Raoof Hassan on Tuesday announced that former prime minister and party founder Imran Khan was willing to consider any “constructive suggestions” put forward by Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) president Mahmood Khan Achakzai , as part of its dialogue with the government.

When asked if the PTI had given Achakzai the power to negotiate, Raoof Hassan was very clear: “No, the position of the PTI is clear. Don't confuse two things together. The PTI’s position is clear: we do not want any contact with mandate thieves.”

“If he [Achakzai] comes to us and says this is something positive and we should move forward, Imran said we will think about it,” Hassan reiterated.

Responding to PTI chief Gohar Khan's comments that the party was open to negotiations, Hassan clarified that they had consulted Imran following Gohar's remarks. Imran denied making such a statement. “There will be no direct contact with the parties who stole the mandate,” Gohar quoted Imran as saying.

The winds of change began to blow in February when PTI spokesperson Raoof Hassan revealed that Imran Khan had contacts with all political parties except the PML-N, PPP and the Movement Muttahida Qaumi-Pakistan. These three parties are currently at the head of the coalition government.

In what appeared to be a reversal from his previous stance of engaging only with “empowered” stakeholders and avoiding the “powerless ruling coalition”, Imran Khan on June 11 ordered his party's top brass to reach out to the government for dialogue.
