PTI workers hold rallies for Imran's release

KARACHI – In response to a call for nationwide protests by the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), the party's Sindh chapter staged public protests and held rallies across the province , demanding the release of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan. A rally, led by PTI-Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh, was taken out from Hasan Square in Gulberg. Former President Arif Alvi also addressed the participants of a protest demonstration held in front of the Karachi Press Club. Speaking at the rally, Mr. Sheikh criticized the heavy police presence at the party headquarters Insaf House in Karachi for arresting PTI workers when other parties were allowed to hold their programs strictly following protocol. He called it a double standard that fueled public resentment. The PTI leader accused the “so-called” Pakistan People's Party democratic government in Sindh of depriving the people of their fundamental rights.

He stressed that peaceful protest was a constitutional right for every Pakistani, but the current regime had set aside the Constitution and laws and effectively imposed a civil dictatorship.

He said Imran Khan was fighting for the survival of Pakistan and was unjustly imprisoned on false charges.

He urged people to take to the streets and register their demonstrations in support of their leader. “The country is going through a very delicate phase,” he said.
