Former PM Imran Khan offers SC early hearing on disqualification case

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking an early hearing of his ongoing appeal against his disqualification as a lawmaker. The petition was submitted through lawyer Ali Zafar.

The plea asks the apex court to expedite the hearing of the PTI founder's appeal against his disqualification as a lawmaker.

The petition states that currently, a process is underway to remove Imran Khan from the post of party chief following his disqualification by the Election Commission.

The plea further states that cases challenging the Election Commission's orders are currently pending before the Islamabad and Lahore High Courts, arguing that due to these pending cases, Imran Khan, as the founder of the PTI, is not able to stand or participate in legislative elections. -elections pending the outcome of his appeal.

Imran Khan had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court on January 10, 2024, challenging his disqualification by the Election Commission.
