CNN has already set the stage for an unfair debate between former President Trump and President Biden by selecting a debate moderator with a “history of anti-Trump lies” and abruptly ending an interview with Trump's spokesperson. campaign Monday morning, according to the Trump campaign. .

“CNN cut off my microphone for bringing up the debate moderators' history of anti-Trump lies, which proves our point that President Trump will not be treated fairly in Thursday's debate. Yet President Trump is still ready to go into this 3-1 fight to bring his winning message to the American people, and he will win,” Trump national press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News Digital Monday morning.

Leavitt was abruptly interrupted during an interview with CNN host Kasie Hunt Monday morning, after criticizing CNN hosts Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, who will moderate Thursday's debate between Trump and Biden.

“This is why President Trump is knowingly walking into a hostile environment on this same network, on CNN, with debate moderators who have made their opinions about him known for the past eight years. And their biased coverage of him ” Leavitt said on CNN's debate preview.

CNN host cuts off Trump spokesperson for criticizing network debate moderators: 'I'm going to stop that'

“So I will just say that my colleagues, Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, did their job as professionals in covering the campaigns and interviewing candidates from all sides. I will also say that if you talk to analysts from previous debates, If you are attacking the moderators, you usually lose,” Hunt responded.

While Hunt tried to redirect the interview toward an overview of the debate, Leavitt said it would only take a few minutes to find examples of the Tappers' anti-Trump rhetoric over the years.

“Ma’am, I’m going to stop this interview if you continue to attack my colleagues,” Hunt said, before Leavitt continued that she was “stating facts” about what CNN hosts had already said about Trump.

“I'm sorry, guys, we're going to get back in front of the panel,” Hunt said. “Karoline, thank you very much for your time. You are welcome to come back at any time. She is welcome to come back and talk about Donald Trump, and Donald Trump will have the same time as Joe Biden when they both join us later this year in Atlanta for this debate.”

Hunt clarified on X Monday morning that when guests join his show, they must “respect my colleagues.”

“You come on my show, you respect my colleagues. Period. I don't care what side of the aisle you are on, as my background clearly shows,” Hunt posted.

A CNN spokesperson told Fox News Digital Monday morning that Tapper and Bash are “highly respected veteran journalists who have covered politics for more than five decades combined.”

“They have extensive experience moderating major political debates, including CNN's Republican presidential primary debate this cycle. No two people are better equipped to co-moderate a substantive, fact-based discussion and We look forward to the June 27 debate in Atlanta,” the spokesperson continued.

Trump previously predicted that the next CNN debate had a 90% chance of being unfair to him, noting that there was still a “10% chance” that moderators Tapper and Bash would be fair.

“Fake [Jake] Tapper and many others involved at CNN, [the Biden campaign] I wanted to sit down, which I didn't like. I said we should stand up and I think we won that point,” Trump said on Logan Paul's “IMPAULSIVE” podcast earlier this month. “But I would have taken whatever I accepted because they didn't want to do it. They thought I wouldn't do it because it's CNN, but I've done a lot of CNN. I did a town hall not too long ago with CNN and it worked well. But I think they will be fair. I think they will try to be fair. As fair as possible. »

“But I think it's important that there be a debate. So [the Biden campaign] said: Do you want to debate? “Yes, I will accept. You don't even need to tell me. Then they said CNN, they talked about the different people involved, but let's see what happens. I got along well with [debate moderator] Jake Tapper. We'll see what happens, but it doesn't matter. Whatever it is, it is,” Trump continued.

“They could be [fair]”, Trump added. “I'd say a good 10% chance.”

Tapper has a long history of embracing anti-Trump rhetoric, including trying to link Trump to Adolf Hitler, as Leavitt mentioned in his brief remarks on CNN on Monday. In December, Tapper linked Trump to Hitler after the 45th president's remark that illegal immigrants were “poisoning the blood of our country.”

“With four weeks until Ohioans vote for the first time in the 2024 presidential race, the dehumanizing rhetoric of Adolf Hitler is once again alive and well on the national political stage. This time, though sure, in the United States this time, brought to life by former president and current Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, whose thoughts on immigrants were made incredibly clear over the weekend,” Tapper said. before playing the excerpt of Trump's remarks. “If you were to open a copy of Hitler's Mein Kampf, you would find the Nazi leader describing the mixing of non-Germans with Germans as poisoning. The Jew, Hitler wrote, 'poisons the blood of others'.”

In 2020, Tapper also praised Trump's defeat by Biden, declaring that “for tens of millions of our fellow Americans: their long national nightmare is over.”

“This has been a time of extreme division, many of which have been provoked and exacerbated by President Trump himself,” Tapper said at the time.

“This has been a time of several significant and entirely avoidable failures, the most tragic, of course, the refusal to respect the facts and science and do everything that could be done to save lives during a pandemic. It was a time when truth and facts were treated with disdain,” he continued. “It was a time of cruelty when official inhumanities such as child separation became the shameful official policy of the United States. But now the Trump presidency is coming to an end.”

Trump predicts there's a '10% chance' CNN will be fair to him in first presidential debate

Tapper also shamed Trump after his COVID diagnosis in 2020, arguing that it was “a display of wanton disregard for human life” and that Trump became a “symbol of his own failures.” Early in the pandemic, Tapper claimed that Trump “continues to lie to the American people” about COVID testing.

Trump held a rally in Philadelphia this weekend on the campus of Temple University and told Fox News before that that holding campaign events was “really the best strategy” to prepare for Thursday's debate.

“We have all these people here and they're shouting questions. I'm looking forward to the debate,” Trump said.

He added that he was confident heading into the debate, while noting that he wasn't worried about Biden's preparations for Thursday. Biden traveled to Camp David last Thursday, where he is expected to stay until the debate, preparing with top officials.

“Well, I think if he prepares, he'll be fine. Then he'll forget about it about an hour after he prepares. So, we'll see what happens. We'll see what happens,” Trump said .
