PTI founder Imran Khan may be released from jail on June 27: Sanaullah

Prime Minister's Advisor on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Tuesday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan may be released from prison on June 27.

However, Sanaullah, speaking to a private television channel, said the government would do everything possible to keep Khan incarcerated, citing fears over his plans to sow chaos.

Despite the possible release, he assured that there would be no major disruptions.

“Imran Khan’s only message is anarchy and disorder,” Sanaullah said, adding that in a democratic environment, discussion is the only option. However, he stressed that talks can only take place if Khan abandons his current stance of encouraging unrest.

Sanaullah reiterated that the government's response would be severe if Khan continued to seek trouble, but expressed his willingness to speak if circumstances permitted. “Our attitudes will reflect his actions.” “We are ready to speak whenever the opportunity arises,” he said.

The advisor also criticised Khan for not believing in democratic values, saying no one has the power to harm the country. “We will ensure that Imran Khan remains imprisoned within the bounds of law,” he added.

Asked about parliamentary seats, Sanaullah said parties with specified seat allocations are constitutionally entitled to them. He suggested that amendments to the Election Act be considered if necessary.

He denied that Nawaz Sharif and former Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa met during the no-confidence motion, adding that Muhammad Zubair's statements were speculative and incorrect.

He confessed that Shehbaz Sharif had visited General Bajwa when the latter was the head of an institution, saying such meetings are regular as members of the establishment are fundamental to the country.
