Project 2025 is Trump's plan to get rid of democracy and the rule of law.

The presidential election is still four months away, the main parties have not officially nominated their candidates and the first debate has not yet taken place.

But preparations are already underway for a second Donald Trump presidency, and they should alarm all Americans, of all political persuasions, who care about preserving democracy and the rule of law.

An extremist dark money machine is preparing a list of federal officials deemed disloyal to Trump, who could be reclassified, reassigned or fired if he takes office, the Associated Press reports.

This chilling plot, a revival of McCarthyism that traumatized postwar America, is part of the dystopian agenda known as Project 2025.

Key to the agenda is to purge the government of nonpartisan officials sworn to uphold the Constitution and replace them with sycophants loyal only to Trump. The entire federal government would be placed under direct presidential control. That includes the Justice Department, which Trump has pledged to use to prosecute his political enemies.

The purge would pave the way for a Trump administration to impose a radical, repressive and regressive regime that could endure well beyond Trump's constitutionally mandated term, if not his lifetime. A vice president, Mike Pence, and rule-of-law officials in the Justice, Defense and Homeland Security departments thwarted Trump's coup attempt in 2020 and 2021.

In a second term, no official will put the rule of law above Trumpism.

The agenda proposed in Project 2025 is macabre:

Dismantle the foundations of immigration policy, tear families apart, turn away desperate refugees, and remove protections for Dreamers. Undermining climate change mitigation, environmental justice and the clean energy transition. Eliminate racial justice initiatives and preserve the benefits of white Americans, or even pervert the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division to investigate and prosecute all state and local governments, institutions of higher education, businesses, and any other employers private with diversity, equity and inclusion policies. Eliminate public education, eliminate Head Start and other supports for low-income students, and remove federal oversight of public schools. Cutting health insurance, putting 18 million Americans at risk of losing coverage entirely, removing the Inflation Reduction Act's drug pricing provisions and the Affordable Care Act's protections for conditions pre-existing. Shutting off access to safe abortions, contraception and other reproductive health care, putting women's lives at risk. Remove sexual orientation and gender identity from all federal rules, reinstate the transgender ban in the military, and limit LGBTQ workplace protections. Fire officials who resisted Trump

As disturbing as this agenda is, the most alarming and repugnant policy proposal contained in Project 2025 is restructuring the federal government, eliminating the type of officials who prevented Trump from completely dismantling the Veterans Administration, they said. overcame his resistance to expelling Russian spies, dissuaded him from shooting racial justice protesters, derailed his plans to deploy the military against migrants and expel undocumented children from schools, and hijacked his suggestion to drop nuclear bombs in the eyes of hurricanes.

There will be no stopgaps, no checks and balances, no one to say no when he tries to overturn the next election.

The Heritage Foundation, which produced Project 2025, grew out of the mid-1970s movement to protect racially segregated schools. The first battle he fought was against school districts' adoption of multicultural textbooks, n***er books, as some opponents called them.
