Jokowi checks Kotim's agricultural pumping to ensure it is working well
Almost all countries are affected by heat waves, long droughts, so that agricultural productivity decreases and rice production falls. “This pumping program is an effort to anticipate this,” said Jokowi on the sidelines of pumping control on agricultural land in Bapeang Village, Mentawa Baru Ketapang Subdistrict, Kotim, Wednesday, June 26, 2024.
Pumping is a program promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture to increase the national harvest index (PI). Thanks to pumping, the planting period which was initially once a year can become two to three plantations per year.
Jokowi explained that this pumping program was aimed at anticipating the heat wave expected to hit Indonesia and impact declining agricultural productivity.
This heat wave is not only affecting Indonesia, but almost all countries. Many countries that previously exported rice have now stopped exporting rice to meet their own country's needs, and Indonesia is no different.
