Jokowi says pumping assistance program helped boost rice yields

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Joko Widodo's claims, aid package pump now it had an impact on increasing results harvest padi.

As for the East Kotawaringin area itself, the government has distributed 31 pumps which can currently only irrigate 435 hectares out of a total of 7,600 hectares of potential rainfed rice fields.
Meanwhile, for the all-Indonesia pumping program, the government will distribute 20,000 pumping units.
In the future, this number will be increased to around 70,000 pumping units.
President Jokowi stressed that the Ministry of Agriculture will strive to meet the overall need for pumps to ensure that all areas can be satisfied.
The President also said that East Kotawaringin will play an important role as a food buffer for the Indonesian Capital (IKN) in the future.
According to him, if rice production in surrounding districts increases, the surplus will be transferred to the IKN.

“If the index goes from a usual harvest to three, it means there is excess production, from there it will be increased to IKN. Not only East Kotawaringin, but also other districts that have surplus production,” the President said.
Previously, the head of state cited data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) regarding Indonesia's conditions that could potentially be affected by heatwaves and drought over the next four month.
