Erdogan says Ankara will support Lebanon if Israel decides to expand war with West's green light

Shafaq News/ Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday his country stands in solidarity with Beirut amid growing tensions with Tel Aviv, accusing Western powers of supporting what he described as Israeli plans to attack Lebanon and to “spread the war” in the region.
“Israel now has its sights set on Lebanon and we see that Western powers, behind the scenes, are congratulating Israel and even supporting it,” he told lawmakers from his ruling AKP party.
“Netanyahu’s plans to expand the war to the region will lead to great disaster,” he said.
“It is… pathetic that states that speak of freedom, human rights and justice are prisoners of a mentally ill person like Netanyahu.”
His remarks come as concern grows over escalating threats and ongoing cross-border firefights between Israeli forces and Lebanese Hezbollah, fueling fears of a full-blown war.

The Turkish leader's remarks come two days after Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warned Greece and Cyprus against getting involved in the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Speaking to Haberturk television on Monday evening, Fidan claimed there was “serious militarization in southern Cyprus”, which was used as a base for “intelligence and military flights” to Gaza, citing reports from intelligence services.
Ankara, he said, had warned them against getting involved in the conflict.
“When you get involved in the ongoing wars in the Middle East, when you take sides, that fire will come find you too,” he said.
Last week, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah warned Cyprus against opening its airports and bases to Israel “to target Lebanon,” saying it would face retaliation.
But the Cypriot government in Nicosia quickly denied any involvement in Israel's war in Gaza and said it would not “get involved in any military conflict.”
