President Biden and former President Donald Trump will face off tonight in Atlanta in their first debate of the 2024 White House campaign. The candidates are expected to discuss a number of issues, including inflation, immigration, abortion and the wars in Gaza and Ukraine.

In Up First, NPR's Franco Ordoez talks about the politics, policy and personalities who will be on display. He says the two will try to upend the trajectory of an election that many Americans don't seem very enthusiastic about. Ordoez says most political strategists agree that the new format, without live audiences and microphones, could greatly harm Trump because of the way he thrives on large crowds. But some Republicans say the mute button could help Trump temper some of his worst instincts.

The White House and federal agencies can urge social media platforms to remove content they consider misinformation, the Supreme Court ruled Wednesday. This decision constitutes a major victory for the Biden administration.

NPR's Shannon Bond reports that the decision addresses a pressing question this election year: to what extent the government and tech companies can share information about foreign influence campaigns aimed at swaying American voters. But while the case provides clarity ahead of the presidential election, it's just one part of a right-wing legal and political campaign that labels efforts to combat false and misleading information about important issues, including voting and health care, as censorship. Meanwhile, we're still waiting for the court to issue a much-anticipated decision on whether abortions would be allowed in Idaho in cases of medical emergencies. A document briefly posted yesterday on the court's website indicates that the justices will rule that Idaho cannot deny emergency abortions to women whose health is at risk.

A chaotic scene unfolded in Bolivia yesterday as President Luis Arce appeared to have fended off an attempt to overthrow his government. Soldiers filled La Paz's main square and an armored vehicle drove into a government palace, before retreating in what authorities described as an attempted coup by elements of the army . Arce vowed to stand firm and appointed a new army commander who ordered the troops to withdraw. The Bolivian general believed to be behind the rebellion, Juan Jos Ziga, was arrested after the attorney general opened an investigation and said more arrests were likely.

NPR's Carrie Kahn tells Up First that Ziga was removed from command, and when asked if he was overthrowing the government, he talked about saving the country, freeing political prisoners and promising real democracy . Protests over the country's economic woes, caused by a shortage of dollars and imports, and the alleged undemocratic actions of President Arce, have shaken the country recently, Kahn says. Eduardo Gamarra, an expert on Bolivia at Florida International University, tells him that this brief coup will probably also boost the president's popularity, but only temporarily. Deep dive

New insights into the brain's waste disposal system may one day help researchers better understand and prevent many different brain disorders. Andriy Onufriyenko/Getty Images .

Your brain produces a lot of waste, and scientists now think they know where it goes. Two research teams have published information on the brain's waste disposal system and their findings could help better understand, treat and perhaps prevent various brain disorders. Here are some of the points to remember:

The papers, published in the journal Nature, suggest that during sleep, slow electrical waves push fluid around cells from deep within the brain toward its surface. There, fluids enter the bloodstream, which takes them to the liver and kidneys to be eliminated from the body. One of the waste products carried away is amyloid, the substance that forms sticky plaques in the brains of Alzheimer's patients. The new studies suggest that keeping the brain's waste disposal system functioning requires two distinct steps: pushing waste into the fluid surrounding the brain and moving it through the lymphatic system and eventually out of the body. 3 things to know before you leave

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
