NEW DELHI: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to abolish the National Eligibility and Entrance Test and restore the old system of conducting examinations through the State Government As she stated, the current system has led to Corruption .
“The allegations of paper leakage, taking of bribes by some persons and officials involved in conducting examinations, opening of window to allow some students to apply for examinations, grace marks etc. are some of the serious issues which need full attention and require thorough, clean and impartial investigation,” the letter read.
“Such cases jeopardize the careers and aspirations of hundreds of thousands of students who hope to gain admission to these universities. medicine course,” she added.
Mamata also urged Prime Minister Modi to restore the old registration system where states were allowed to conduct their own entrance exams.
“In this regard, it is also worth pointing out that before 2017, states were allowed to conduct their own entrance exams and the central government also conducted its own entrance exams for medical courses. This system worked smoothly and without many problems. This was better suited to regional curricula and educational standards,” she said.
“Furthermore, the current system has led to massive corruption that only benefits the rich who can afford to pay, while deserving students from the poor and middle classes suffer and are the biggest victims,” she added.
The NTA, which conducted the NEET-UG exams, is under fire for alleged irregularities in the exams. This led to several protests across the country, with demonstrators and political parties demanding the dissolution of the NTA.
