Former President Trump's supporters prepare for big event

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) Hampton Roads residents are literally preparing for former President Donald Trump's rally at Greenbrier Farms in Chesapeake on Friday.

Several merchandise stands have popped up along Battlefield Boulevard in recent days, including two from Greensboro, North Carolina.

They have shirts, hats, mugs, flags and much more.

“People were going left and right every five minutes,” said salesman Reginald Purnell. “People stopped. They're very excited that he's coming here.”

Purnell said he has attended more than 200 rallies across the country and said this one was the best in terms of sales so far this year.

“This one was great,” Purnell said. “It’s probably the biggest event this year as far as merchandise sales in the community. We’ve been very busy.”

Willis Brown has been selling merch since 2015 and said he enjoys connecting with other Trump supporters at his booth near the Great Bridge.

“I’ve been doing this since 2015,” Brown said. “It’s not just my job. I like what I do. I love this country we live in and I don't like what's happening in the country. I'm 43 years old and I truly believe Trump is the most qualified man for this job. »

President Biden supporters like PJ Hughes even stopped by to check out the merchandise while we were there.

I just came back from the doctor's office and I see all these women's shirts for Trump, voting for a felon, all these other things,” Hughes said. “I just wanted to see what other things, the propaganda, [that] “They're spreading here and it's quite interesting. They have a range of everything. »

Some supporters walking past the tents even got information on how to register to attend the event.

Chesapeake native Stephen Lawley is hoping to get a ticket. He said Trump has a lot of support here in Hampton Roads.

“I looked at the rallies he did and thought if I ever had the chance, I would come support him,” Lawley said.

If you have registered, you should receive parking instructions for Friday via email after verifying your tickets via text message.

Event doors open at 11am Parking opens at 8am

There will be no overnight parking permitted at Greenbrier Farms.

Greenbrier Farms staff told 10 On Your Side the walk from the parking lot to the event is about a half-mile, so plan accordingly.
