Consultation with President Joko Widodo, Chairman of MPR RI assures ST MPR on August 16, 2024 in Jakarta – South Sumatra Update

Jakarta, sumselupdate.com –MPR RI Chairman Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) confirmed that President Joko Widodo will attend and deliver a speech on the performance of state institutions during the 2024 MPR RI Annual Session (ST) at the Nusantara Building in MPR RI on August 16, 2024 and the 79th Indonesian Independence Day celebration in a hybrid way at the IKN led by President Jokowi accompanied by President-elect Prabowo.

Meanwhile, at the same time, Vice President Maruf Amin and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka at the Jakarta Palace.
This year's ST MPR is the last ST MPR of the MPR for the 2019-2024 term.

“ST MPR is a forum for defending the sovereignty of the people, strengthening communication, as well as a vehicle for increasing public trust, through the submission of performance reports on the implementation of the authority and duties of every state institution,” Bamsoet said after holding a consultation meeting between the leadership of the MPR RI and President Joko Widodo, at the State Palace in Jakarta, Friday (28/6/2024).

Also present were Deputy Speakers of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly Ahmad Basarah, Ahmad Muzani, Jazilul Fawaid, Sjarifuddin Hasan, Yandri Susanto, Hidayat Nur Wahid, Amir Uskara and Fadel Muhammad.

Also present were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.

The Chairman of the 20th DPR RI explained that in addition to discussions on preparations for the 2024 annual session of the MPR RI, preparations were also discussed for the commemoration of the Constitution Day and the anniversary of the MPR RI. The commemoration of the Constitution Day will take place on August 18, 2024, at the Nusantara IV Building, inviting the President, Vice President, heads of state institutions, ministers and members of the MPR RI. At the same time, the anniversary of the MPR will be solemnly celebrated on August 29, 2024, and celebrated internally by the MPR on August 31, 2024.

“The commemoration of Constitution Day is a historical series inseparable from Pancasila's birthday on June 1 and Indonesian Independence Day on August 17. August 18 marks the constitutional legal push for the birth of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia. “On the same date, Bung Karno and Bung Hatta were inaugurated as the first president and vice president of the Republic of Indonesia,” Bamsoet said.

He also informed the president that the MPR leadership was carrying out National Rally activities to absorb the aspirations of national figures. The National Rally is an implementation of the MPR's institutional vision as a national home that welcomes and connects various schools of thought.

“Some of the national figures that the MPR leaders met with include the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the 6th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Try Sutrisno, the 10th and 12th Vice Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla, the 11th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Boediono, the leader of the 11th RI MPR Amien Rais, the 14th leader of the RI MPR Sidarto Danusubroto, the general leader of the Nasdem Party Surya Paloh and the general leader of the National Revival Party Muhaimin Iskandar,” Bamsoet said.

He added that from the series of National Rally meetings that took place, there was a common thread in the views of these national figures. After 26 years of Reform, it turns out that there are still national problems that need to be tackled together.

“These problems include the implementation of a democratic system which is not yet ideal and the balance between procedural and substantive aspects. “Apart from this, there are still gaps in the Constitution which do not provide any outcome in the face of extraordinary, extraordinary circumstances, likely to threaten the integrity of the nation and the State”, underlined Bamsoet.
