Jailed Imran Khan moves IHC over denial of meetings with PTI leaders, lawyers

Jailed former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court over the denial of meetings and consultations with his party leaders and lawyers.

Khan, currently lodged at Adiala Prison in Rawalpindi, has named the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Home Minister, Punjab government and the prison superintendent as respondents in his petition .

The petition claims that despite the court's decisions, the prison director has banned meetings with lawyers and party leaders.

Earlier, the Islamabad High Court had allowed consultations between Imran Khan and his party leaders for allocation of party lists for the February 8 general elections.

The petition claims that due to the bad intentions of its opponents, the consultation process for the allocation of party tickets was hampered.

He claims that intelligence agency officials oversee all prison operations, hampering the PTI founder's ability to consult with party leaders.

The petition compares Imran Khan's treatment to that of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was allowed to meet 15 people a day during his imprisonment.

The former prime minister has requested the court to grant him permission to consult party leaders on various issues and to prevent intelligence agencies from interfering in the affairs of the civil administration.
