National Accountability Bureau challenges Imran Khan's bail in NCA scandal

Islamabad [Pakistan]June 29 (ANI): Pakistan's National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has challenged the bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in connection with the National Crime Agency scandal (NCA), worth 190 million pounds, ARY News reported. The NAB chairman filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the Islamabad High Court's verdict granting bail to the PTI founder. The head of the anti-corruption body said the High Court had 'overlooked' the facts in granting bail to the former prime minister as part of the National Agency's £190m settlement against crime (NCA). Further, the SC argued for setting aside the IHC verdict. Earlier in May, the Islamabad High Court had granted bail to PTI founder Imran Khan as part of the ₹190 million National Crime Agency (NCA) settlement, ARY reported News.

A two-member bench comprising IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri reserved the verdict a day ago after the arguments were over. The IHC, in its brief order, directed the authorities to release the PTI founder on Rs 1 million bail. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched an investigation against Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi and others for allegedly earning hundreds of kanals of land in the name of Al Qadir University Trust, which caused a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer, ARY News reported. According to the charges, the former prime minister and other accused had adjusted Rs 50 billion to 190 million pounds at the time, sent by the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) to the government. In December 2023, NAB filed a corruption case against Imran Khan and seven others, including his wife, in connection with Al-Qadir University.
