Pakistan's Imran Khan Party criticizes defense ministers, hinting at possible operations in Afghanistan

Following Pakistani Defence Minister's remarks on the possibility of operations against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Afghanistan, former Prime Minister Imran Khan's Tehreek-Insaf (PTI) on Friday condemned the remarks, saying Pakistan should not interfere in other countries.

“We do not allow any interference in our country, so we must not interfere in any other country,” United Opposition members told the National Assembly during an emergency meeting.

While condemning Asif's rhetoric, opposition leaders said such statements endanger not only the “brotherly” relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan but also regional peace.

“Our ties with India are based on rivalry, and we are now trying to treat Afghanistan in the same way. We cannot afford further escalation of conflict and disorder,” said Asad Qaiser, a senior PTI member.

He warned that launching attacks inside a neighbouring country could push the entire region into war.

Omar Ayub, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, stressed that “even major world powers have faced challenges in Afghanistan, which has always been considered a geostrategic focal point in the region.”

“India is carrying out many terrorist attacks in Pakistan. Why did the Defence Minister not mention launching attacks in India?” he asked at a press conference outside Parliament.

Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif on Thursday said that under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, the government may target Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) hideouts across the Afghan border.

The Afghan Defense Ministry, however, called the comments reckless in a statement, warning of consequences in the event of attacks.

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), also said at a press conference on Saturday that the IEA would not allow an incursion into Afghan soil.
