President Joe Biden is facing growing criticism and calls for him to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race after his poor performance in the debate against Donald Trump this time, with the New York Times editorial board asking him to drop out .

The clearest way for Democrats to defeat a candidate defined by his lies is to deal honestly with the American public: recognize that Mr. Biden cannot continue his run and create a process to select someone more capable to run in his place to defeat Mr. Trump in November, the editorial board wrote Friday.

It comes after the president gave a fiery speech at a campaign rally in North Carolina, in which he acknowledged his age and limitations but said the stakes were too high and promised he could do work.

Meanwhile, Trump took the opportunity to show off his better-regarded debate performance by bragging about Truth Social. The former president claimed that reporters praised him for having the best debate

Trump repeated lies and untruths throughout his speech, often refusing to answer questions. He declined to say directly whether he would accept the November results.

Donald Trump's unsubstantiated claim that migrants threaten the availability of black jobs during the first presidential debate left black people, including members of Congress, asking: What is a black job?

“They're taking jobs away from blacks and Hispanics. And you haven't seen it yet, but you're going to see something that's going to be the worst in our history,” Trump said Thursday night.

The former president's comments appear to have been an attempt to expand his political influence to more communities of color through his commonly used anti-immigration rhetoric. Implementing tough immigration policies is one of the cornerstones of the former president's campaign.

But his vague classification of jobs as exclusively for blacks or Hispanics has not been well received.

Am I at my black job right now? I don't know.

Nearly everyone agrees, including President Joe Biden, that he botched the first presidential debate of the 2024 general election, but the question remains how good a debate performance matters when it comes to winning back the White House.

1719680432Memo reveals Trump's plans to chip away at Republican platform: report

Donald Trump's advisers are reportedly considering significantly paring down the National Republican Party's platform to make it fully cohesive and focused on the former president's campaign and 2024 agenda, according to a memo seen by The New York Times.

The memo purportedly describes an effort to narrow the Republican Party's platform to ensure that our policy commitments to the American people are clear, concise and easily digestible.

He said releasing a wordy and unnecessary treatise gives Democrats leverage to launch attacks on the party.

It is with this recognition that we will present a streamlined platform, consistent with President Trump's popular and principled vision for America's future, the Times reported Saturday.

The memo was sent Thursday, nearly a month before the Republican Party's annual convention is scheduled to take place.

1719676832Why the Supreme Court's January 6 decision will only impact a handful of rioters

The Supreme Court's decision to restrict how January 6 defendants can be charged with obstructing an official proceeding will likely impact only a small number of convicted rioters.

The decision will not have much significance in the January 6 cases, including that of former President Trump, because in almost all cases there are other charges that have felony status in addition to the The charge of obstruction, said William Banks, a professor at Syracuse University Law School.

Although no defendants were charged solely with obstruction of an official proceeding, 27 individuals pleaded guilty only to the obstruction charge.

1719674432Trump brags about his Truth Social debate

Donald Trump is basking in the fallout from the first presidential debate and bragging about his performance.

On Truth Social, the former president claimed that political journalists were shouting out loud that he had the best performance in a debate.

They all said, in fact, that Trump was fantastic! This theme was universal, even on CNN and MSDNC, but Friday night it was all about Crooked Joe's poor performance, and not so much about my performance. Well, that's how it is, but, more importantly, the result is the same!!! Trump wrote Saturday.

1719672332New York Times Editorial Board Calls on Biden to Drop Out of 2024 Race

The op-ed comes after the president appeared shaky during Thursday night’s debate. His voice was soft and raspy, which his campaign attributed to a cold. He also paused and gave rambling answers to numerous questions. Vice President Kamala Harris even acknowledged that Biden had struggled: “Yes, it was a slow start,” she said Thursday. It’s obvious to everyone.

The president appeared Thursday night as a shadow of a great civil servant, the board wrote Friday night. He struggled to explain what he would accomplish in a second term.

He struggled to respond to Mr. Trump's provocations, the board continued. He has struggled to hold Mr. Trump accountable for his lies, his failures and his fearful plans. More than once he had trouble getting to the end of a sentence.

While the editorial board said Biden would be their unequivocal choice over Trump, they called on the Democratic Party to come up with a new candidate.

1719668700Trump claims landslide victory over Biden a day after presidential debate

Donald Trump claimed to have won a “great victory” against Joe Biden in the wake of the first televised debate of the 2024 presidential election cycle. The current US president struggled against his opponent as Democrats looked on in horror, appearing to run out of steam during the showdown on CNN in Atlanta, Georgia. Mr Biden’s predecessor, meanwhile, repeated lies and falsehoods throughout the exchange, often failing to answer questions and being pressed three times on whether he would accept the November results. “We won a great victory against a man who is truly out to destroy our country,” Trump said.
