Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated the Indian cricket team after their victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, beating South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling final, thereby winning their first ICC trophy in 13 long years. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated the team: “Our players have put up an exceptional performance throughout the T20 World Cup with unmatched team spirit and sportsmanship. The nation is proud of their historic achievement.”

Virat Kohli's first half-century of this T20 World Cup anchored India to 176-7 in the final hosted in Barbados. Kohli scored 76 runs, with Axar Patel contributing 47 runs. Keshav Maharaj was the standout bowler for South Africa, taking 2 wickets for 23 runs.
