Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended special thanks to cricket great Rahul Dravid, saying his “incredible” journey as head coach of the Indian team helped shape the success of the T20 World Cup.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke to the Indian team over the phone and congratulated all the players on their triumph over South Africa in a nail-biting ICC Men's T20 World Cup final at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. He extended special thanks to cricket great Rahul Dravid, saying his incredible journey as head coach helped shape this success.

He spoke to skipper Rohit Sharma and congratulated him for his splendid captaincy, appreciating his T20 career. He also praised Virat Kohli for his player-of-the-match knock of 76 runs which helped India set a competitive score, and recalled his contribution to Indian cricket. Both cricketers also announced their retirement from the international T20 format after the historic victory, which saw India end a title drought after 13 years.

Modi then praised Indian bowlers Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah for their contributions. He appreciated Pandya for the last over and praised Bumrah's last over towards the end of the match. He did not forget to mention Surya Kumar Yadav for his crucial catch, which probably turned the tide for the Indians against South Africa.
On Saturday, June 29, after India's victory, the Prime Minister released a video message of congratulations to the Men in Blue and hailed them as champions. He said the cricketers had won the hearts of millions of Indians.

Noting that India did not lose a single match, he added that this is no mean feat in a tournament in which so many countries have participated.
