ISLAMABAD: Jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Saturday sought names of party members allegedly involved in internal conflicts and forward bloc within the party, stressing that strict action should be taken against those who repeatedly violate party rules.

According to PTI leaders privy to the developments, the party founder took note of the situation following reports of a forward bloc within the party. The unconfirmed reports claim that nearly two dozen lawmakers have hinted at forming a forward bloc due to the leadership's failure to secure Imran Khan's release from jail.

According to inside sources, persistent reports of groupings within the PTI prompted the PTI chief to seek the names of members involved in factionalism and forward blocs.

They claimed that Khan had ordered the party leadership in a meeting yesterday to present the names of those involved in the forward blocs of the Senate and the National Assembly (NA) in the next meeting.

The former prime minister also stressed strict adherence to party discipline, ordering that action be taken against those who repeatedly violate party rules.

A series of resignations

The PTI has seen a wave of resignations pour in recently after rumors of advanced blocs and internal conflicts became apparent.

Amid escalating conflicts within the PTI, lawmaker Junaid Akbar resigned from the party's central committee on Saturday.

His resignation follows that of the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, who resigned as PTI general secretary, indicating further changes in the organizational structure of the party.

On the other hand, Sher Afzal Marwat demanded the resignation of PTI Senator Shibli Faraz, accusing him of preventing access to imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan.

Confusion reigns within the PTI over Omar's resignation amid rumours of rifts within the party. Meanwhile, the party has announced that it will hold rallies for the party chief's release, while the general secretary has stepped down from the key party post to focus on parliamentary affairs.
