Former President Donald Trump's campaign plans to present a streamlined platform ahead of the Republican National Convention later this month, according to a memo obtained by NPR.

This platform is an opportunity to clarify our vision and establish a framework for policymaking, while rejecting any influence from special interests that would seek to deflect public policy from our clear and simple goals, said the memo, signed by Trump advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles.

They said the platform should reflect Trump's vision for America and avoid creating lines of attack for his adversaries.

The big question is what the package will say on abortion, which poses a political challenge for Republicans because the strictest policies on abortion are out of step with the views of most Americans. The package committee has not yet met to determine what the final document will contain.

This debate will not take place openly, as has happened in the past. This year, the platform committee will meet a week before the congress and will be closed to the press, according to a source familiar with the decision, who was not authorized to speak publicly about internal plans.
