Ravindra Jadeja became the third Indian player to quit T20I cricket after the Men in Blue won the T20 World Cup 2024. The star all-rounder made the announcement a day after India lifted the trophy. Jadeja took to Instagram to share his retirement post and wrote: With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals.”

“Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I have always given my best for my country and I will continue to do so in other formats. Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true, the pinnacle of my international T20 career. Thank you for the memories, encouragement and unwavering support,” he added.

Soon after Jadeja announced his retirement, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X to send his wishes to the all-rounder. “Dear @imjadeja, You have performed exceptionally well as an all-rounder. Cricket lovers admire your elegant strokeplay, spin and superb fielding. Thank you for the thrilling T20 performances over the years. Best wishes for your future endeavours,” Modi wrote.

Jadeja responded to Modi's message and thanked him for his wishes. “Thank you very much sir,” Jadeja wrote on X.

Jadeja did not have a memorable run in the T20 World Cup 2024. He managed just 35 runs and one wicket in 8 matches in the ICC event. With Axar Patel excelling on the batting and bowling front, Jadeja might have lost his place in the T20I team going forward.

He was part of the T20I squad from 2017 to 2019. He became a regular in T20Is after his return and played in the 2021 and 2024 T20 World Cups. He missed the 2022 T20 World Championship due to a knee injury. Jadeja finished his T20I career with 515 runs and 54 wickets in 74 T20Is. He made his T20I debut in 2009.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired just after the final of the T20 World Cup 2024. Virat made the announcement while speaking to Harsha Bhogle after receiving the Player of the Final award.

Rohit announced his retirement while speaking to the media after the match. Both players hinted at quitting T20I cricket in 2023 as they stayed away from the shortest format for a year.

Both senior players made their return for the T20I series against Afghanistan to confirm their availability for the World T20 Championship 2024. Both players finished their T20 careers on their terms.
