President-elect Prabowo undergoes surgery for leg injury
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President-elect Prabowo Subianto revealed that he recently underwent surgery to repair a leg injury supported about four decades ago.
“As many people already know, I had two skydiving accidents on my left leg while serving in the TNI (Indonesian Army) in the 80s,” the Gerindra party leader said on his Instagram account on Sunday evening June 30, 2024.
The operation, which took place last week, was successful. “Thank God, the team of doctors managed to carry out the medical treatment to repair the injuries I suffered a week ago,” he added.
The operation was carried out at the Central National Defense Hospital (RSPPN) Panglima Besar Soedirman in Bintaro, South Jakarta. The hospital was inaugurated in February 2024 by President Joko Widodo alias Jokowi and Prabowo himself as Minister of Defense.
Prabowo stressed that the operation was a major one and acknowledged the potential risks involved. He was aware that his life was at stake during the operation, but he believed that medical treatment was essential to enable him to more effectively fulfill his duties to the State.
Prabowo is expected to be sworn in as the new president replacing Jokowi on October 20, 2024.“God willing, I will be even more ready to serve the country and the Indonesian people in the future,” the former special forces commander said.
Prabowo thanked the entire team of doctors and medical staff for their reliable and professional treatment. The team of doctors includes retired Brigadier General Dr. Robert Hutauruk, Colonel Dr. Sunaryo and Dr. Siska Widayati, assisted by Dr. Thomas and all the nursing and medical staff of RSPPN Panglima Besar Soedirman.
In the photo he posted on Instagram, Prabowo is seen receiving President Jokowi who visited him in his hospital room. “Thank you to Indonesian President @jokowi for your moral support and prayers,” Prabowo said.
The photo also shows Prabowo's son Ragowo Hediprasetyo Djojohadikusumo or Didit sitting next to his father and Jokowi, as well as Prabowo's aide Major Teddy Indra Wijaya.
