No chance of Imran Khan being released from jail under current Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leadership: Fawad Chaudhry

Islamabad [Pakistan]July 1 (ANI): Former Pakistani Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that he sees no chance of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan being released from Adiala jail as long as the party's current leadership is in charge, Dawn reported. Chaudhry's remarks come in the latest round of reports against the current PTI leadership over the past week. He quit Imran Khan's party following the state crackdown on the party following the May 9 riots. Earlier this month, the Interior Minister said that the current PTI leadership has failed to come up with a political strategy, which has exacerbated the party's problems despite overwhelming public support, Dawn reported. “The real aim of the PTI should be to build an opposition alliance with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and the Jamaat-i-Islami,” Chaudhry said while speaking to reporters at his Ladhar residence. On Thursday, Chaudhry, in a private conversation with Dawn, said that no one in the current leadership of the party has the “political stature” or the ability to mobilise the masses like Imran. He also claimed that there were people in the party who did not want to see Imran Khan released from jail as it would mean the end of their political career, Dawn reported. In a video message on X, Chaudhry today said that a number of people had advised him not to criticise the leadership as it would weaken the party. However, he added, he does not see even a “1 per cent” chance of Imran being released from jail as long as the current leadership takes strategic decisions. The former minister said he had been criticised for “coming back” now that the “good times” were back but questioned whether the current situation could be considered as such.

“There are 47 cases against me that are pending,” he said, adding that the “tough times” were not over for the leaders who were still in jail or facing charges.
