PTI founder unlikely to be released from prison under current leadership: Fawad Ch

He says no leader had the political stature or the ability to mobilise the masses as Imran did.

ISLAMABAD: Former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Sunday said he did not see incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan being released from Adiala jail under the current leadership of the party, saying no one in the leadership had the political stature or the ability to mobilise the masses the way Imran did.

PTI's real aim should be to form an opposition alliance with JUI-F, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and Jamaat-i-Islami, Fawad Ch said while speaking to reporters in his residence in Ladhar.

Chaudhry, who left the PTI following the state crackdown on the party following the May 9 riots, said earlier this month that the current PTI leadership had miserably failed to provide a political strategy in which is why problems were getting worse for the party despite massive public support.

Meanwhile, in an interview with a private TV channel, Fawad Sh said that no one in the current party leadership has the political stature or ability to mobilise the masses like Imran.

He even claimed that there were people within the party who did not want to see Imran Khan released from jail as it would mean the end of their political career.

In a new video message posted on his X account on Sunday, Chaudhry said that several people had advised him not to criticize the leadership as it would weaken the party. However, he said, he does not see any chance of Imran being released from jail as long as the current leadership takes strategic decisions.

He said he had been criticized for returning now that the good times had returned, but he questioned whether the current situation could be considered as such.

There are 47 cases pending against me, he said, adding that the hard times were not over for the leaders who were still in jail or facing charges.

He said a large number of PTI leaders were still in jail. The difficult times have probably [only] finished for people who have not encountered any difficulties, he said.

There is not even a 1 in 100 chance that the current leadership can get Imran out [of jail]he said.

He said the current party leadership had no political strategy or the ability to create one.

Without naming anyone, he accused the PTI secretary of charging money from the party for his services, accusing the party leadership of managing its own economy.

He said veteran party members should be included in decision-making so that a political plan can be created.

Later in the day, speaking to another private television, Fawad Ch said that the current PTI leadership should also allow others to approach Imran in jail.

These leaders are not allowing access to Imran Khan so that their business model continues to work, he said.

While responding to the party's counter-accusation that Fawad Ch was desperate to return, he said: Of course, I am desperate, I am desperate because I see how these people are sinking the ship. They have no political strategy.
