Fawad rules out Imran's release in presence of current PTI leaders

ISLAMABAD: Amid reports of internal divisions within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry said there was no chance of release of incarcerated party founder Imran Khan , in the presence of the current leaders of the PTI.

[Due to] Due to the lack of political strategy of the current PTI leadership, we are all suffering, said the former senior vice president of the party, who parted ways with Khan following the violent May 9 protests that saw attacks on government and military installations.

He also responded to criticism from PTI leaders that those who parted ways with Khan following the May 9 chaos have now started speaking in his favour as the difficult period for the ailing party is now coming to an end.

Tough times are not over for the jailed former prime minister and other PTI leaders. Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry and others are still behind bars and facing a difficult time, he said. The former federal minister said: Some people start their journey from Peshawar and return after holding a rally in Lahore.

Continuing his criticism of the PTI leadership, the former federal minister said the leaders of the Barrister Gohar Ali Khan-led party were only commenting on the verdicts of different cases against the jailed party leaders.

He was of the opinion that electable politicians like Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pervaiz Elahi and Asad Qaiser should lead the party. Fawad, who is also a lawyer, urged top PTI leaders to stop the senseless negotiations, hoping for an early release of the PTI founder following court battles.

Interestingly, this statement comes at a time when fissures are appearing within the PTI, with 21 of its MPs, now part of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), reportedly hinting at plans to form a bloc to address the party leaders' inability to secure the release of party founder Imran Khan from prison. Earlier this week, PTI General Secretary Omar Ayub Khan also tendered his resignation from his post in the party.
