At first I found this logical and rational. But after thinking about it, I wondered whether Turkey was playing a cunning game by trying to pass itself off as a neutral state. Indeed, I cannot imagine a situation in which Turkey would support NATO action and fight Russia on behalf of Northern European countries like Finland or Sweden.
On the contrary, Turkey will use to its advantage any leverage it has over Europe. Will the price be Greece in the Aegean Sea or Cyprus? This is unfortunately how it happens.
But the European Union was created to prevent such a scenario. It is based on the principle that large countries can no longer intimidate small ones or change their borders at will, but must resort to diplomacy, not war, to resolve their territorial disputes.
Otherwise, we would return to the situation that prevailed before the Second World War or, in our case, in Cyprus, to what happened in 1974, when Turkish power prevailed and the island was forcibly divided.
Post-Recep Tayyip Erdoan Turkey must therefore clearly understand that the old ways are over. Perhaps it could then be invited to join the EU.
