Jokowi's Message to National Police Ahead of 2024 Regional Elections: Maintain Neutrality
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has asked the National Police to support the implementation of regional elections, also known as county elections, simultaneously this year. Jokowi advised National Police to maintain democracy so that regional elections can be conducted safely, honestly and fairly.
Jokowi conveyed this while giving instructions at the Bhayangkara 78th birthday ceremony in Monas, Gambir area, Central Jakarta, on Monday afternoon, July 1, 2024. The head of state warned against these regional elections before the November elections.
“I ask the National Police to support and make it a success, to maintain neutrality,” Jokowi said.
Acting as a ceremonial inspector at Bhayangkara's 78th birthday, Jokowi appreciated the dedication of all members of the National Police in maintaining stability and security. The former Jakarta governor gave an example of the National Police's participation in maintaining the 2024 election process and the government's major development programs.
Jokowi said that in the future, the national police will need to be more agile and adaptive. Especially in the face of increasingly complex transnational crimes.
“The National Police must have a strategic perspective, it must become Cooling system and cement diversity, must be professional and non-selective in law enforcement,” Jokowi said.

Jokowi's message came amid a debate over so-called girl-girls Regional elections 2024especially the Jakarta gubernatorial election. Most recently, Prosperous Justice Party Secretary General Aboe Bakar Alhabsyi said that President Jokowi had proposed the name of Kaesang Pangarep to run as a candidate for governor or deputy governor of the Jakarta Special Region in the regional elections next November. Aboe Bakar said that Jokowi not only proposed the name of PSI chairman general to one political party, but also proposed it to a number of other political parties.

However, Aboe did not deny or confirm that PKS was one of the parties proposed by Jokowi on behalf of Kaesang. In addition, the names of other parties he mentioned also received offers.
The President's Special Office, Grace Natalie Louisa, denied the statement by PKS Secretary General Aboe Bakar Al Habsyi.
