Erdoan receives Saudi defense chief in Ankara
President Recep Tayyip Erdoan received Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman Al Saud at the presidential complex in the capital Ankara, the Trkiyes communications department said on Tuesday.
Defense Minister Yaar Gler also attended the closed-door meeting.
No further information was immediately available.
Relations between the two countries have improved in recent years, with Erdoan visiting Saudi Arabia in July following his re-election as president in June 2023.
He also visited Saudi Arabia in November of the same year to participate in a joint summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League. The summit discussed the war in Gaza and established a joint contact group of foreign ministers of member states to end the war and contribute to the establishment of lasting peace.
Ankara is among the proponents of a two-state solution to the conflict, supporting the creation of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and based on the borders before the 1967 war. Ankara completely severed relations with Israel after the latter launched a brutal campaign targeting innocent civilians in Gaza following the Hamas incursion on October 7.
