Given the “very trusting nature” of relations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, no topic was off-limits for the two leaders at their upcoming meeting in Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

The dates of Prime Minister Modi's visit to Moscow will be announced a little later, but preparations are already in their final stages, Peskov said.

Putin and Modi will discuss regional and global security, trade and all other issues on the agenda during their meeting, Peskov was quoted as saying by Russia's state news agency TASS.

“We (Russia and India) are participating in integration processes together, so regional affairs, regional security and global security are always at the forefront of the agenda. In addition, of course, our bilateral trade and economic exchanges are always at the center of attention,” the Kremlin official said, responding to a question about what topics will be discussed during the negotiations between Putin and Modi.

Calling Prime Minister Modi's visit “very important”, the official noted that Moscow and New Delhi have a mutual political will to develop cooperation in various fields.

“Given the very trusting nature of relations between President Putin and Prime Minister Modi, we can expect an exchange of views on all issues that are on the agenda, and there are many of them,” Peskov added.

“We will officially announce this visit later, after coordination with our Indian friends, I can only confirm to you once again that the visit is in the final stages of preparation,” he said, responding to a question on the dates of Modi's visit to Russia.

Diplomatic sources in New Delhi said the Indian prime minister's one-day visit was scheduled for around July 8, adding that there was no final date yet and various options were being explored.

The visit, if it takes place, will be Modi's first to Russia in nearly five years. His last visit to Russia was in 2019, when he attended an economic conclave in the Far Eastern city of Vladivostok.

If Modi visits Russia, he and President Putin are then expected to host the annual India-Russia summit after a three-year hiatus.

The annual summit between the Indian Prime Minister and the Russian President is the highest institutional dialogue mechanism within the framework of the strategic partnership between the two countries.

So far, 21 annual summits have been held alternately in India and Russia. The last summit was held on December 6, 2021 in New Delhi. Putin, as the head of the Russian state, has visited India nine times.
