PM Modi is expected to address the Rajya Sabha today, a day after his Lok Sabha speech amid opposition outcry
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, a day after his two-hour speech in the Lok Sabha. While the Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die after the Prime Minister's speech on July 2, the Rajya Sabha will continue the debate on the motion of thanks on the President's last week's address to both Houses of Parliament on July 3.
Heated exchanges are expected between ruling and opposition MPs in the Rajya Sabha during Prime Minister Modi's speech on Wednesday. Opposition MPs kept shouting slogans throughout the prime minister's speech in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Modi continued his speech in the Lok Sabha amid chants of “Justice for Manipur” and “Bharat Jodo” from opposition members. The prime minister accused the Congress and its ecosystem of insulting Hindus and hatching a conspiracy to falsely claim that Hindus were violent.
The Prime Minister urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to take strict action against what happened on Monday, which he said was a slap in the face to the wisdom of our people and our great national traditions. The Prime Minister, without naming Rahul Gandhi, was referring to the Leader of the Opposition's (LoP) speech in the Lok Sabha on July 1, in which he launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for an alleged attack on the idea of India.
In his first speech as Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi displayed posters of religious figures, including Lord Shiva, to target the ruling party. Excerpts of Rahul Gandhi's speech were deleted from the Parliament's archives on July 2.
The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which began on June 24, had seven sittings, during which 539 Lok Sabha members took oath or solemn declaration in the first two days. The Rajya Sabha is also likely to be adjourned sine die after Prime Minister Modi's speech on Wednesday.
