Jokowi rejects Kaesang's nomination, avoids 2024 elections

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has denied the statement of PKS Secretary General Aboe Bakar Alhabsy, who said he had proposed the name of his son and PSI General Chairman Kaesang Pangarep to the parties for the Jakarta governor election. Jokowi stressed that he has never been concerned about regional elections.
“I have never suggested it to anyone, never to the parties. Ask the parties,” Jokowi said after inaugurating the electric vehicle battery factory, in Karawang, West Java, Wednesday (3/7/2024), as quoted by Detik News.
Jokowi also denied that he was a girl in the 2024 regional elections. Jokowi stressed that the 2024 regional elections were a matter for political parties.

“Pilkada issues are the affairs of political parties. Nomination issues are also issues of political parties. I am not the leader of the party. I am not the owner of the party, so don't ask me,” he said.
Statement by the Secretary General of the PKS
Earlier, PKS Secretary General Aboe Bakar Al Habsyi claimed that Jokowi had proposed Kaesang's name in the regional elections. He expressed this while answering Jokowi's question that a girl would be in the Jakarta gubernatorial elections.
“It is normal to have problems, from the president until later, it is normal, so there is no problem, let it go,” Habib Aboe Bakar told reporters at the Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel, Central Jakarta, Thursday (27/06).
“I have already proposed it. I have already proposed it, we will see,” Habib Aboe continued.
Kaesang's objection
Kaesang responded to this accusation. The PSI chairman said that Aboe Bakar's statements did not correspond to the facts.
“The PKS Secretary General does not speak according to the facts. Mr. Jokowi has never proposed my name to the parties. Please check or mention which parties Mr. Jokowi has proposed. Such methods are not good and it is a lie to the public,” Kaesang said in his statement.
