Hyundai Motor Group has completed the construction of a joint battery cell plant named “HLI Green Power” in Indonesia with LG Energy Solution. Hyundai Motor Group has secured a competitive advantage in the ASEAN market with a population of 700 million by establishing a collective production system from battery cells to finished vehicles in Indonesia.
Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 3rd (local time) that it will hold a ceremony to celebrate the completion of Indonesia's electric vehicle ecosystem with the Indonesian government. It celebrated the completion of HLI Green Power and the mass production of Kona Electric, which was jointly established by Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution.
The battery cells produced here will be installed in the small electric vehicle “The All New Kona Electric”, which will go on sale in Indonesia on the 17th. The Kona Electric is the second electric model to be produced at Hyundai's Indonesian plant after the Ioniq 5.
To date, Hyundai Motor Group is the only automaker in Indonesia that has established a collective production system for electric vehicles, from battery cells to finished vehicles.
More than 300 people from both countries attended the ceremony, including Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun, Hyundai Motor Chairman Jang Jae-hoon, LG Energy Solution Chairman Kim Dong-myung and Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
Chairman Chung said, “The completion of the battery cell plant in Indonesia and the mass production of Kona Electric are the fruits of cooperation between Hyundai Motor Group and Indonesia,” adding, “This means that we are jointly creating the future of the electric vehicle ecosystem, not only in Asia but also around the world.”
