A simple phone call from Xi Jinping to Vladimir Putin could end the war in Ukraine, the Finnish president has said. Sky News.

Alexander Stubb told Bloomberg that Moscow is now so dependent on Beijing's support that if the Chinese leader were to call for peace talks to begin, Russia would be “forced to do so.”

China proposed a 12-point peace plan last year – which Ukraine and the West rejected.

China has yet to condemn Russia and has called the war in Ukraine an “invasion” while criticizing Western sanctions imposed on Moscow.

Putin and Xi are expected to meet in Kazakhstan in the next two days for their second summit in as many months.

Stubb said China would benefit from an end to Russia's “war of aggression and colonialism.”

“It must protect international norms related to territorial integrity and sovereignty,” he said.

China's Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to Bloomberg's request for comment.
