Boris Johnson's father admits he won't vote Tory
In a clip posted on social media by the Liberal Democrat candidate for Queen's Park and Maida Vale in Greater London, Helen Baxter, Boris Johnson's father admitted he would not vote Conservative in the general election.
Polls will open across the UK at 7am on 4 July, when voters will decide who they want as their local MP, which will in turn determine who will be elected as the country's next prime minister based on the number of seats won by each political party.
Baxter had a meeting with Boris Johnson's father, Stanley Johnson, which was filmed and posted by her on her X/Twitter account in which Johnson said he would vote for her.
Helen Baxter tweeted: “I spoke to another Mr Johnson today who told me he was voting @LibDems – we had a long conversation about the negative consequences of #Brexit on our economy and our position in the world.”
She cited a post from @PoliticsUK which said that “Boris Johnson made a surprise appearance at Rishi Sunak's campaign rally with the crowd chanting his name” as part of it.
Halfway through the clip, Johnson congratulated Baxter before asking, “Are you voting for me?”
“Well, I think I'll say this, at the risk of… For reasons, for reasons that are absolutely clear, I will vote for you, Helen Baxter, in this election,” Johnson responded.
Baxter then thanked Johnson for what he had said.
Boris Johnson served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and leader of the Conservative Party from 2019 to 2022.
