Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets T20 World Champion Indian Team on July 4 India vs South Africa

 


Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the winning Indian contingent of the T20 World Cup in New Delhi on July 4 (Thursday). The Indian men's cricket team notably created history by beating their South African counterparts in a thrilling final in Bridgetown, Barbados on Saturday (June 29), ending an 11-year world title drought.

While Modi was at the Ahmedabad stadium when India succumbed to a heartbreaking defeat in the ODI World Cup final against Australia in November last year and later visited the dressing room and delivered a pep talk, it is now being reported that the Prime Minister will meet the victorious team led by the same captain and coach.

While Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have announced that the 2024 T20 World Cup final is the last time they will lead the Indian Blues in the shortest format, it was also coach Rahul Dravid's last stint with the Indian team.

After their victory, the Men in Blue were stranded in Barbados for a few days due to a hurricane, but were eventually able to return home on a special Air India flight from India. The plane is reportedly called AIC24WC and is expected to arrive in the Indian national capital early on the morning of July 4.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier shared a video message for the team immediately after they won the final to clinch their second T20 World Cup.

“CHAMPIONS! Our team is bringing home the T20 World Cup in style! We are proud of the Indian Cricket Team. This match was HISTORIC,” he had captioned a video message on X.

Modi even spoke to Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid and Rohit on the phone, sharing pictures of them on his social media.
