Turkish President, Qatari Emir Discuss Israeli Attacks on Gaza, Lebanon
ISTANBUL
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in the Kazakhstani capital Astana on Thursday and discussed Israel's attacks on Gaza and Lebanon.
“The meeting focused on bilateral relations between Turkey and Qatar, Israel's attacks on Palestine, the Israeli threat against Lebanon as well as regional and global issues,” Turkey's communications directorate said on X.
Stressing that the spread of Israeli aggression in the region is “dangerous,” Erdogan said: “The international community, especially the Islamic world, must take immediate action and work together to prevent this and stop Israel.”
He stressed the importance of increasing humanitarian efforts to resolve the crisis and ensuring “uninterrupted delivery of aid” to Gaza, where Israel has killed nearly 38,000 Palestinians since last October.
“Turkey continues to increase its efforts in this regard,” he added.
Israel has also threatened to launch an all-out war against Hezbollah in Lebanon, where exchanges of fire between the two sides have continued since the Gaza war.
Meanwhile, Erdogan also met with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh.
The duo discussed bilateral relations between Turkey and Mongolia, as well as regional and global issues.
Stressing the importance of elevating relations with Mongolia, a country with deep cultural and historical ties to Turkey, Erdogan said: “Efforts must continue to be made in this direction.”
Erdogan flew to Astana on Wednesday to attend a two-day meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
