'PM Modi lied': Congress leader Kharge explains why opposition walked out of Rajya Sabha | India News
Kharge accused the Prime Minister of dishonesty and claimed that the BJP-RSS, the Jan Sangh and their political predecessors had strongly opposed the Indian Constitution. He accused the RSS, the ideological mentor of the BJP, of being against the Constitution. To support his claim, the Congress leader cited an article from the RSS publication 'Organiser' dated November 30, 1950, which allegedly showed the organisation's opposition to the Constitution, saying that it lacked anything Indian.
“Indian parties walked out of Rajya Sabha because PM Modi was lying. He claims that we are against the Constitution, but the TRUTH is that the BJP-RSS, Jan Sangh and their political forefathers had vehemently opposed the Constitution of India. They had burnt the effigies of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru “At the time, it was a shameful thing and an affront to democratic values,” Kharge said in a post on X.
“The truth is that Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar gave the credit for drafting the Constitution to the Congress party,” he added.
Opposition MPs from INDIA bloc staged a walkout as the Prime Minister was replying to the debate on 'Motion of Thanks' on the President's speech in the Rajya Sabha today.
Opposition MPs alleged that Mallikarjun Kharge was not given a chance to speak. In protest, they raised slogans against the Prime Minister and walked out of the House.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar strongly criticised the actions of the INDIA bloc MPs, accusing them of defying and outraging the spirit of the Constitution and disregarding their oath. He said, “The opposition members have defied the Constitution, outraged the spirit of the Constitution and disregarded the oath they have taken.”
Dhankhar also alleged that opposition MLA Kharge had insulted his oath of office by participating in the strike, saying, “Khargeji has insulted the oath of office by participating in the strike. They (opposition MLAs) have made a mockery of the Constitution. I hope they will do some introspection.”
Dhankhar said that Police Chief Kharge was given ample time to speak without interruption. He condemned the strike, saying it was the biggest insult to the Indian Constitution. “There can be no bigger insult to the Constitution of India than this… I condemn their conduct… This is an occasion when they have defied the Constitution of India. They have outraged the spirit of the Constitution of India, they have ignored the oath they had taken… The Constitution of India is not something that one holds in one's hands, it is a book of a way of life. I hope they will introspect and follow the path of duty,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi also criticised the opposition MPs, saying they lack the courage to face the truth. He said, “The country is seeing that those who spread lies do not have the strength to hear the truth. Those who do not dare to face the truth, do not dare to listen to the answers to the questions that have been raised in these discussions. They are insulting the Upper House, the glorious tradition of the Upper House.”
