Lukashenko and Xi Jinping meet in Astana
ASTANA, 4 July (BelTA) Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, on 4 July, BelTA has learned.
Xi Jinping congratulated Alexander Lukashenko on Belarus's new status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Belarus became a full member of the organization at the Astana summit earlier in the day.
The Chinese president said: “Your country celebrated Independence Day yesterday. Today, your country has become a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. I extend my warmest congratulations to you.”
He recalled that the Belarusian President visited China twice in 2023. During the negotiations, the sides outlined plans for advancing an all-weather strategic partnership. Close contacts are maintained at all levels.
“We will definitely promote more stable development of our relations,” Xi said. The Chinese leader added that both sides intend to move forward in this direction by leaps and bounds.
In turn, Alexander Lukashenko thanked the Chinese President and Foreign Minister for the enormous support Belarus received on the way to joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
