Opportunities for Kaesang to run in regional elections, Jokowi asks PSI chairman
President Joko Widodo's youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep, has been given the opportunity to run in the 2024 simultaneous regional elections (pilkada) after the General Election Commission (KPU) upheld the Supreme Court's (MA) ruling on calculating age limits for regional head candidates.
President Jokowi, during his working visit to several districts in South Sulawesi, regarding the possibility of his son running in the regional elections, Thursday (4/7). Jokowi only responded briefly.
“Ask PSI Chairman Kaesang Pangarep,” Jokowi said briefly in Sinjai Regency, South Sulawesi, when answering reporters' questions about the possibility of Kaesang, who is effectively the general chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), running for the 2024 regional elections.

As is known, the KPU has conducted an analysis of the Supreme Court's decision regarding the age limit for candidates for regional heads. In its conclusions, the KPU stated that candidates for regional heads in the 2024 parliamentary elections must reach the required age by January 1, 2025.
The age limit for candidates for regional head is stated in KPU Regulation (PKPU) Number 8 of 2024 regarding the appointments of governor and deputy governor, regent and deputy regent, and mayor and deputy mayor.
On the official page of the Indonesian KPU, it can be seen that it has officially set the minimum deadline for regional head candidates in the 2024 regional elections, to be calculated during the investiture.

Previously, the Supreme Court decision ordered the Indonesian KPU to revoke Article 4, Paragraph (1), Letter d of the PKPU Number 9 regarding candidacies for the election of Governor and Deputy Governor, Regent and Deputy Regent, and/or Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
The case is known to be registered under number 23 P/HUM/2024. The applicant is the Chairman General of the Indonesian Guard for Change (Garuda), Ahmad Ridha Sabana and others, while the respondent is the Indonesian KPU.
The case was referred to the AM on 23 April 2024. The case distribution date was 27 May 2024. The case was decided on 29 May 2024.
With this decision, someone can run as a candidate for governor and vice governor if they are at least 30 years old and as a candidate for regent and vice regent or candidate for mayor and deputy mayor if they are at least 25 years old when they are nominated, not when they are nominated as a pair of candidates.
