Donald Trump Turns Kamala Harris' Big Letter Into Campaign Ad: No Tip Tax

First, Donald Trump was filmed by the Daily Beast sitting in a golf cart, calling Kamala Harris “bad” and Joe Biden “old shit,” while handing her two new bills from a roll he had in his pants pocket.

He has now turned the video into a campaign ad, highlighting one of the policies he says will win over voters: ending federal taxes on tips.

The video is the closest Trump has come to a public statement as the White House grapples with growing calls for Biden to resign following last Thursday's disastrous debate.

The video was taken while he was addressing a group of people about the debate. In the video, provided to The Daily Beast by a source, the former president asks the person holding the camera what they thought of his own performance in the debate. As he is told that he did something fantastic and amazing, Trump blusters flatly, “Look at this old pile of crap in ruins.”

“He’s a bad guy,” he said, apparently referring to Biden. After announcing that the president was resigning and handing over to Kamala Harris, Trump continued: “I think she’ll be a better opponent.”

She's so bad. She's so pathetic, he adds, tugging at his gloves, then seems to say: She's so bad.

Trump then comes back to Biden and asks, “Can you imagine this guy dealing with Putin? And the president of China, who is a fierce person. He’s a fierce man, a very tough guy. And they see it.”

Before leaving, the former president repeats: “But they just announced that he's probably going to resign. Keep knocking him out, huh?”

But on his social media platform Truth Social on Thursday, Trump focused not on what he said about the Democratic ticket for the 2024 election, but wrote in all caps, END TAX ON TIPS, because much of the action in the video involved unrolling two bills from a roll and handing them off-camera to presumably his shopping cart.

Trump has pushed the idea in an attempt to appeal to working-class, particularly black and young voters. His advisers believe the measure could appeal to a group that polls show is less enthusiastic about Democrats, and Biden in particular, than in the past.

He was applauded at a rally of his supporters in Las Vegas, Nevada, last month when he spoke about it, though his rallies are not known for eliciting negative reactions. The last time he spoke about it was at a CEO summit in Washington DC, where it was reported that it provoked laughter in the room.

His campaign hasn't said exactly how it would work. Workers who earn tips, including those in restaurants and other service industries, must report them on their tax returns. The tax is then calculated the same way as regular income tax.

Trump’s retreat from the political scene during the Democratic crisis was an unusual display of discipline from the former president. On Wednesday night, his campaign spokesman, Stephen Cheung, declined to comment on the video and referred The Daily Beast to a statement released earlier in the day about the total collapse of the Democratic Party, attributed to campaign advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles.

Trump reserved his most significant invective for Vice President Kamala Harris, calling her “so bad” when he spoke. But none of that was the subject of his Truth Social post.

The lengthy statement included a slam dunk on Democrats, the mainstream media, and the swamp, claiming that each of them lied about Joe Biden's cognitive state and supported his disastrous policies over the past four years, particularly cackling co-pilot Kamala Harris.

A White House spokesperson referred The Daily Beast to the Biden campaign, which released a statement firing back at Trump later Wednesday evening in a similar format.
